Rally Update from the "RED BULL"
 |
| Col behind the wheel just outside Quilpie |
We were up at 5am to a magnificent sky, Col was a little seedy but his navigation skills have improved on yesterday, the trip today has been mostly smooth sailing, lots... and lots... and lots... of dust, must have been about 300 gates to open and close!... We are almost at Quilpie now and will have to blow the dust out of the car when we arrive so we can find the sleeping gear for tonight!
Although today has been trouble free, Col did manage to dint a rim when he run over a stump, making up for my indiscretion yesterday I suppose.
Tonight we will stay in a motel and get cleaned up for the black tie ball at Quilpie.
...more updates tomorrow, isn't technology great, Col doesn't know yet that I have sent his pic back live from the car.
DAY 2, BOLLON TO QUILPIE:
Now we all have a day under our belt, things should start to fall into a rhythm and you can reallybegin to enjoy your experience on the Great Endeavour.
Todays course is a mixture of good shire roads and rough station tracks. We use quite a bit of private property today, so please respect this and ensure that gates are left as found. Should you damage a gate or fence, please remain there until you, or someone has made it stock proof. Report it too the next official that you come across.
The course through to Wyandra is identical to the one used in 1988. There was quite a bit of water back then, and some remains of the first event can be seen on W6 inst 5.
The cruise course will head to Wyandra via Cunnamulla on bitumen. From there its mostly dirt roads through to Quilpie. They are goods roads, however they are quite isolated with a few turns and intersections. Take care and keep an eye out for each other. If you want to stick to the tar, you will have to go through Charleville.
REFUEL AT WYANDRA: Brian from the Wyandra hotel has had to order in large quantities of fuel especially for the rally, so please be mindful of this and make sure you purchase what you need. Even if you dont really need any, just filling up your jerry-can will help ensure he offloads what he has brought in.
Early start tomorrow, so make sure you check your flashing light and UHF this afternoon. Once we leave Quilpie, facilities and resources become very scarce.
